Dressing Room Policy

 

The safety and protection of our participants is key to Tillsonburg Skating Club (TSC) goals. TSC adheres to Skate Canada’s National Safe Sport Program as a means to help protect its participants from physical abuse, sexual abuse and other types of misconduct, including emotional abuse, bullying, threats, harassment, and hazing. To help prevent abuse or misconduct from occurring in our change rooms TSC has adopted the following changing room policy. This policy is designed to maintain personal privacy as well as to reduce the risk of misconduct in changing rooms.

Parents in Change Rooms

Except for skaters under 8 years old, we discourage parents from entering the change room unless it is truly necessary -- if the skater is or may be injured. If a skater older than eight needs assistance with their uniform or gear, or a skater’s disability warrants assistance, then we ask that parents let the coach know so TSC can make arrangements beforehand so they can properly accommodate and assist their skater.

Naturally, with our youngest age groups (CAN SKATE) it is necessary for parents to assist the skaters getting ready for their lesson. We ask that all CAN SKATE skaters use their assigned dressing room with one parent per skater.  If you chose to use a Star Skate dressing room, the adult must identify as female and all children must be under the age of eight.  

All Star Skaters, as skaters get older than eight years of age, the coach may in their discretion prohibit parents from a change room.

 

Inclusive Change Room

It is imperative to remember that Skate Canada registrants and members are permitted to use facilities based on their chosen gender identity. Individuals must be allowed to use the change room or restroom they choose based on their gender identity/gender expression. 

Prohibited Conduct and Reporting

Prohibited Conduct and Reporting prohibits all types of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, bullying, threats, harassment, and hazing, all as described in Skate Canada’s National Safe Sport Program. Participants, coaches, parents/guardians and volunteers at TSC may be subject to disciplinary action for violation of these change room policies or for engaging in any misconduct or abuse or that violates the Safe Sport Policies.

Reports of any actual or suspected misconduct, must be reported to Skate-Safe.ca.
